New day, new zake album on his Past Inside The Present label, and yet another excuse to shut the laptop, ditch the doomscrolling, sink deep into the sofa and lose yourself in his hazy drones and distant guitars. Lowlands: In Three is a 44-minute suite in three movements that was inspired by the heat of a late Indiana summer afternoon. It's suitably slow and laid-back, with even shifting melodic focus, but only if you listen closely. Chords shimmer like heat haze on the horizon, occasional clouds drift by, and the whole thing is an evocative listen to take you from day into night.
