Wolf Biermann & Klaus Lenz Sextet "Enfant perdu" + "Der Huguenotfriedhof" Single Release: 06.10.2023 Clouds Hill releases GDR underground recordings for the first time The tape slumbered in Biermann's archive for 50 years. Everyone involved had long forgotten the recordings from 1973. No wonder, because this coup was simply unthinkable: The banned singer-songwriter Wolf Biermann and the most successful bandleader of the GDR, Klaus Lenz with his jazz musicians, play together? How and where should this be possible? It was clear that the musicians with Biermann in their luggage would not have made it into a single studio in the GDR. But everyone wanted to record for a Biermann LP, which of course could only be released in the West! The ingenious arranger Lenz took on the two latest Biermann songs. Biermann lugged along his Revox tape recorder and high-quality tapes. In Lenzen's booth, a small house in Berlin Lichtenberg, a studio was quickly improvised. But what to do with all the musicians who play each other down in confined spaces during a recording? The organ was placed in the kitchen. The brass players in the living room, the drummer in the hallway. The flutist into the storage room and – the dogs bite the last one – Biermann was condemned to the bathroom and squatted on the toilet with his guitar in front of his microphones. The pleasure of this secret interplay can be heard in the recordings. A wonderful example of unruly solidarity. Title: 1.Enfant perdu 2.
