The 'First Team' comprised seven songwriting duos: Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, Gerry Gofn & Carole King, Doc Pomus & Mort Shuman, Neil Sedaka & Howard Greenfeld, Burt Bacharach & Hal David, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, and Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich.

Other signifcant Brill Building songwriters included Ben Raleigh, Jack Keller, Bob Hilliard, Phil Spector, Bert Berns, Hank Hunter, Helen Miller, Tony Powers, Larry Kolber, Tommy Boyce, Mark Barkan, Bobby Darin, and others.
