WEST GRAND triumphantly supplied one of the best Soul releases of 2026 with their lovingly assembled vinyl LP compilation A CELLARFUL OF MOTOWN! A NORTHERN SOUL LOVE AFFAIR.
Now due to demand here is the CD follow up. The vinyl contained 16 Motown treasures and 4 extra tracks have been added to the CD.
Under licence from Universal and all tracks supplied on original master tapes from the Motown vaults, this collection is made up of Motown recordings made in the 1960s but bafflingly never released at the time.
After being rejected by Motown’s notoriously hard to please Quality Control department, they were destined to be lost forever until found by Motown fanatics and Northern Soul detectives on discarded acetates, cassettes and multi tracks.
The astonishing thing is that they were somehow deemed to be unworthy of release.
As respected Motown expert Adam White writes in his lines: “It’s extraordinary that this amount of superior material remained in the vaults for so long.”
The four CD only bonus tracks feature The Marvelettes,The Temptations, The Velvelettes plus Frank Wilson whose My Sugar Baby was recorded at the same sessions as his anthemic Do I Love You.
WEST GRAND - IT’S WHAT’S IN THE UNRELEASED GROOVES THAT COUNT….
