The "Men They Couldn't Hang" (TMTCH) was formed in 1984. They are known for their  politically charged lyrics, a blend of punk and traditional folk music, and their ability to  tell compelling stories through their songs. The band's name comes from the story of  a 19th-century criminal who survived a botched hanging.

TMTCH combines traditional folk instruments and melodies with a punk-rock ethos, creating a sound that appeals to fans of both genres. Their lyrics often focus on history, politics, social justice, and working-class struggles.
