The Illness are primarily from York and Liverpool but with a preference for collaboration across cities and continents. Their first 12"single "Descending G/Phrases Redacted" released during lockdown in 2020 featured Pavement/Silver Jews members Steve West and Bob Nastanovitch, was heavily played on BBC6, and featured in Marc Riley's end of year best of list. The new EP features multiple contributors including Laura J Martin and Dbh. Each track being played essentially by a completely different line-up serves to better represent the band's varying influences, whilst being built around the same 4-piece band.
