A Note on “MANGO”
Over the past year and a half, I’ve been playing live shows nonstop. Everywhere I went, I received incredible vibes—so much so that I felt something ripening
deep within me. Maybe in my chest, maybe in my gut… but definitely in the very core of my body and soul.
Musically, my interests have remained rooted in places like Jamaica, Brazil, Argentina, and Indonesia. From the depths of those creative minds that influenced me,
I could hear rhythms soaked in humidity and harmonies that electrify with ease.
In March, I went to Taiwan for a show and discovered that “mango” can be written in Chinese characters: 芒果 or 檨仔.
In April, I randomly traveled to Okinawa. I ate a rice ball. Juicy… delicious. I’m turning 40 soon. Forty—but still juicy, right? I felt like a song like that needed to exist. Y
ou’re juicy too, aren’t you? Watching a whale shark, I thought: yeah, that kind of song should exist. I listened to Latin Playboys while driving.
Dusty guitars rang out with a sensual shimmer. The sunset in Urasoe was stunning. I decided to make a messy, wild party song.
And so, “MANGO” was born.
I want it to hit you right in the hips.
If it feels too good and you get hooked—don’t say I didn’t warn you!!!
