"On Family, Blues Music Award-winning, GRAMMY-nominated, Memphis-based family band delivers uplifting, timeless original soul and roots music. With the soulful, gospel- inspired voices of the Jackson sisters and Ori Naftaly’s searing fretwork, they have created a new flavor of Memphis soul. The album’s first single “Found A Friend In
You”, released last September, charted at Triple A radio. That release coincided with a 9-date run on Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival, playing for tens of thousands of people. Willie wore his Southern Avenue t-shirt onstage and invited them to harmonize with him during his set. A fan engagement track, “Rum Boogie,” was released January 27th and a video has been promoted on YouTube to keep the momentum going.
Alligator publicity, radio and social media have been promoting these early developments, and with the release of the album are pitching national, regional and internet media, setting up interviews, features, in-studio performances and more, as well as advancing all tour dates.
“Found A Friend In You” continues to make waves at radio, still receiving significant airplay from some of NPR Music’s most influential stations and still in heavy rotation at SiriusXM’s “Jam On” channel. Next radio single “Upside” goes for adds March 10th. Indie promoter Brad Paul will work alongside Alligator to AAA and Americana formats, along with blues and jamband radio. Pre-street date live listener appreciation events with WFUV/New York and WXPN/Philadelphia will help secure lengthy, significant airplay at both stations.
Southern Avenue recently received their third Blues Music Award nomination for Band Of The Year. They’ve toured throughout the U.S., as well as Europe and Australia, and shared bills with Tedeschi-Trucks, Sheryl Crow, Jason Mraz and more. Tour dates in support of Family are thick with festival performances, including New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Southern Skies Music Festival in Knoxville, TN, Crawfish Fest in Augusta, NJ, New York State Blues Festival in Syracuse, Red Wing Roots Music Festival in Harrisonburg, VA and Notodden Blues Festival in Norway.
Recorded in Memphis at the legendary Royal Studios (Al Green, Ann Peebles, Bruno Mars), Family boasts one musically memorable performance after another, all delivered with soul-healing power. The music is a vibrant blend of Memphis soul and blues, warm sister harmonies, and positive messages reminiscent of The Staple Singers. From the irresistible “Upside” to the closing, ruminative “We Are,” Family unveils hard-hitting, universal truths about the unshakable power of togetherness.
