Released in 1981, âSkyy Lineâ is the fourth album by the Brooklyn, NY-based R&B / funk / disco octet SKYY. âSkyy Lineâ was a high note in the groupâs tenure with Salsoul Records, the label having released a total of seven of the groupâs albums.
The album, co-produced by group member Solomon Roberts and Randy Muller of Brass Construction fame, climbed to the top of the R&B charts with its cheeky hit âCall Meâ, which was written and arranged by Muller/ Both the single and the album were certified gold by the RIAA.Â
Showcasing the signature vocal harmonies of sisters Denise, Dolores, and BonnĂ© Dunning, couple with the crisp guitar licks of Solomon Roberts, the funk and rock-inspired guitars of Anibal âBoocheâ Sierra, Gerald Lebonâs classic R&B base thumps, Tommy McConnellâs pulsating drum riffs and Larry Greenbergâs synth and keyboard runs, this fourth LP crystallizes the groupâs magic. âSkyy Lineâ delivers 40 minutes of impeccable party music: equal parts irreverent and unforgettable.
About Salsoul Records:
Established in 1974 by the Cayre Brothers, Salsoul Records quickly earned a reputation for releasing & producing everlasting dance classics. Names such as Joe Bataan, First Choice, and Instant Funk gave the label itâs signature sound â a vibrant combination of salsa, soul & disco music engineered for the
dancefloor.
Salsoul had many hits in the 1970s but is historically best-known for releasing the first commercially available 12â (Giant) Single: Double Exposureâs âTen Percentâ. Revered by DJs & remixers alike, Salsoulâs catalog became the soundtrack of an emerging â and diverse â scene that embraced technical creativity.
Many of these records have resurfaced in modern samples & remixes: proof of Salsoulâs enduring legacy and itâs crucial role in shaping the sound of dance music.
