R Beny's Feedback Memory is a record that invariably gets you to slow down. Northern California musician Austin Cairns builds these five tracks from small gestures: a half-formed melody here, a wash of synth there, textures that shift so gradually you only notice once you think back to where you started. The title track is brief, almost a handshake, and 'Suspended in the Lilt of Desire' and 'Sursum Corda' ease you further in. 'Glittered in Thaw' is a short, bright pause before the finale. That finale, 'Late Fragment,' runs for 20 minutes, is the heart of the album and never hurries. Cairns has a knack for making electronics feel like hazy memories and this one is best heard with headphones.
