A trio of composers, multi-instrumentalists and producers combine on this finely detailed conversation between Pepo Galan, Joachim Spieth and Markus Guentner. Restraint is the defining feature of their musical back and forth on Obreel, with subtle tonal shifts and suspended melodies drifting in and out of focus. The vast, pregnant silences carry plenty of emotional weight and gentle harmonic movements and soft pulses drive movement, but only deeper into your own thoughts. The architecture of each track is sublime, from the slow, hazy drift of 'Velthra' to the saturated melancholia of 'Phantom Bloom, ' where long piano keys carry devastating emotional impact. Far too profound to be mere background listening.
