On the latest missive on his edit-focused Brooklyn Lathe Cuts imprint, scalpel-wielding rework maestro P-Sol (long-serving New York producer Patrick Sullivan) turns his attention to a couple of hot, sticky, languid and spiritually enriching cuts from the proto-disco period. First up is 'Harlem River Drive', a take on a suitably cosmic, wide-eyed 1971 cut of the same name re-cast as a rolling, mid-tempo blend of sun-soaked soul and Detroit style Beatdown business. 'Needy', meanwhile, takes a similar approach, adding vocal elements from a boogie-era favourite and adding them to a deep, cosmic and groovy chunk of proto-disco dancefloor soul. Tastefully done, it's every bit as alluring as its predecessor.
