There's real thematic coherence running through Oppenheimer Analysis's work and this New Mexico collection really underlines that. Andy Oppenheimer and Martin Lloyd met at the 1979 World Science Fiction Convention in Brighton and their shared fascination with Cold War aesthetics and atomic-age anxiety gives tracks like 'Cold War' extra weight beyond their hooky synth-pop aesthetic. Their sound sits alongside the likes of Human League and Soft Cell but there's a bleaker, more paranoid edge running underneath, and that's only fitting for two friends who bonded over old propaganda and post-war unease. Originally sold hand-to-hand on cassette at gigs, this material has become cult and now Minimal Wave's remaster, released in memory of Lloyd, gives it its proper due.
