For over 25 years, Murray A. Lightburn (M.A.L.) has been the lead singer and principal songwriter of internationally-known Montreal chamber rock band, The Dears. Once Upon A Time In Montréal is M.A.L.’s third full-length solo album, following 2019's Hear Me Out and 2013’s experimental concept record MASS:LIGHT. As The Dears’ latest (Lovers Rock) album cycle comes to a close, M.A.L. begins work on a new album, to be released under his own name. While musically distinct, Once Upon A Time In Montréal will build on the associated brand of The Dears and expand upon the existing fanbase. To support the new album internationally, M.A.L. will be on tour with fellow Montréal natives, Stars, across the UK and Europe in February 2023.
