In 2022, Michel Legrand would have been 90 years old (February 25). Composer, conductor, pianist, singer, stage director: Michel broke down the barriers between jazz, symphonic music, musical comedy and popular music. A musical legend, three times Oscar winner, Legrand left a prolific body of work, with themes that have taken hold in the collective memory for several decades. This new anthology, entitled Hier et demain (Yesterday and tomorrow), tells us about his destiny and, even better, creates a future for it
The set opens with a CD of contemporary remakes and new readings of Legrand—including previously unreleased tracks—by performers such as Thomas Dutronc, Joe Hisaishi, Natalie Dessay, Clara Luciani, Juliette Armanet, Philippe Katerine, Maurane, Macha Méril, Jasmine Roy and Al Jarreau, Camille Bertault, Benjamin Legrand, and many others. CDs 2–5 are themed and showcase essential tracks by Legrand: vocal, jazz, instrumental music and (very) original scores. Several tracks new to CD enrich the programme.
