Mathias VILLARD - Past Radiance [CD]

Format: CD
Catalogue No.: AFFINCD20
Release Date: 02 Oct 2026
Genre: Ambient/Drone

French-born but Dusseldorf-based Mathias Villard has been part of the Affin label for a while. He is a drummer at heart but has submerged himself ever deeper in the electronic world and is now adept at introspective ambient and drone sounds that are all about escapism and immersion. Past Radiance is his debut album and across seven pieces he melts melancholia into deep low ends with decaying harmonies and widescreen spatial fields. Hints of melody flicker at the edges like half-remembered dreams, and filtered noise takes subtle cues from the worlds of ambient, drone and post-rock. It's a still, sparse world but one full of very real feelings.
