Minimal Wave gathers everything Marseille's cult electro and wave outfit Martin Dupont ever recorded into one lavish box set here. Formed in 1980 by Alain Seghir, Brigitte Balian, Beverley Jane Crew and Catherine Loy and disbanded by 1988, the band blended guitars, clarinets and electronics into something too strange and colourful to sit alongside more typical new wave acts, with melancholy, mystery and tenderness all in equal supply. They opened shows for Siouxsie and the Banshees without ever chasing mainstream success, and their songs often simply tumbled out on a four-track and got shared with friends on tape. This five-LP set spans 60 songs across their three albums, cassette and single, pressed with original Yves Cheynet artwork and a 12-page booklet of unpublished photos. A wonderful archive for anyone drawn to that hot-and-cold, light-and-dark strain of early-80s French electronic music.
