Oxford-born, Berlin-based bass end wizard and Sneaker Social Club label boss Low End Activist returns to Italian stable XCPT with his fullest offering for the label yet. JH Versions takes inspiration from mid-90s drum & bass and jungle and is steeped in deep atmospheres and lovably rough around the edges analogue production. The tempos are restrained to start with, but 'Midnight' still makes a mark with thudding kicks and glitchy textures offset by jazzy percussion and swirling ambient pads. 'Sapphire' rides on precise breaks with controlled tension in the moody bass. 'Ultramarine' is sketchy and skeletal in its rhythm, with unsettling synths that sound like eerie screams and 'Celeste' and 'Indigo' close out with more meticulous designs and sonic placement that is impossible to second guess.
