Debut album by Linn Koch-Emmery. Writing songs is what Linn Koch-Emmery does, and writing great ones is what’s made her name in music. Over the last few years and a couple of EPs, she’s risen to the top of the Swedish indie scene by making music that gets straight to the point - short, sharp simple indie-rock rollercoasters that come packed with killer choruses that are easy on the ear and easy to love. Those songs have found fans at home and abroad, where she’s toured as far as Germany, the UK, and even Mexico, and established her as one of her home country’s brightest new talents. Linn has always had a vision of herself as a songwriter, and so she put together a plan to make it happen (“I’ve always been quite serious about music”).After a quick trip with her dad to pick up a guitar she’d found on Ebay, she was ready to go. Even though she had spells playing in bands, things always leaned towards a solo project. “I’ve always been a control freak in music, and always needed to have it my way, and I think my personality and my music are so intertwined, that a solo project was the most natural way for me to make music”. She spent years hopping between London and Sweden (her sister, Lea, also a musician with Kid Wave and Scout, lives in the city), and back in Sweden she worked with producer Niklas Berglöf, and released a debut single, “Come Back”. It all took off from there. Linn’s new music takes her into new territory. The principle remains the same - strongly melodic, sweetly simple and direct songwriting - but the new songs take on a sound that’s cleaner and slicker, with some of the scuzz swapped out for synths and shine. She’s left any old limits behind her and evolved her songwriting beyond what it was before, breaking any genre box she might have been placed in. Indie rock is a genre that’s often a little too fond of looking backwards, more confident in its rich history than its ability to find a way forward. Linn didn’t want her own music to get caught in the retro trap, so set to work on making songs that didn’t rely on the past as a crutch. And what strikes you on first listen is that the songs don’t bring up memories of anything else - they sound like something different, something new. “I wanted to figure out how indie music should sound in 2020”, she says.”I’m a product of the time I grew up in, and I want that to reflect in my art and my music as well. For me, it’s kind of like owning the time you’re living in I guess
