A former drummer turned sound designer, Manchester's Leo has been long been honing this record through his live sets at The White Hotel, N/OM and Impiety Hour. Cicada Burnt is vintage electro at its core - 16-step drum machine cycles and neck-snapping basses pulled and twisted into something utterly restless. Post-industrial energy crackles through every track as he merges hallucinatory polyrhythms with d&b distortion, dembow syncopations and squelchy acid sequences as the record shifts from scene to city, stealing references and reframing them in new ways as it goes. Three albums in after standouts on YOUTH and $hotta Tapes, this is his Leo's most kinetic and focused work to date.
