Grammy-winning vocalist Ledisi is returning to her jazz roots with her upcoming album Ledisi Sings Nina, a tribute to one of her biggest influences.
The singer’s homage to the great Nina Simone is a seven-song set that includes highlights such as My Baby Just Cares for Me, Wild is the Wind, Four Women and Feeling Good.
Recorded in the Netherlands, Los Angeles, London and New Orleans, the album features instrumentals by the Metropole Orkest and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. It also features guest vocalists Lisa Fisher, Lizz Wright and Alice Smith.
Born in New Orleans and raised in Oakland, Calif., Ledisi is having a banner year that includes winning her first Grammy Award, starring in a PBS television special, performing as part of an all-star cast on HBO’s Between the World and Me, launching her own record label and publishing her second book.
