American J.D. Slater arrives at this debut with a celebrated but unlikely resume that includes cutting his teeth in the New York punk scene, opening for Talking Heads and Blondie at CBGB with his project Frenzy, before co-founding Raging Stallion Studios and becoming, by reputation, "the Lou Reed of gay porn." Filling Your Silence collects his soundtracks for the label's first two Sexpack films, and reveals there is a real musician underneath that history. 'Seduction' opens on a 90s synthetic pan flute before pulling into wild, trance-like grooves, 'Running with Scissors' tightens the pace with crunchy breakbeats, while 'Mercy' and its second movement lean into a bleepy, early Nightmares on Wax or 808 State vibe. A great artefact from a true polymath.
