Last year, Italian reissue specialists Back To Life delivered an authorised, remastered new addition of Canadian twosome Infra-Red's 1991 debut EP, Metamorphosis, a superb set that blended spacey deep house with nods to early UK bleep and the more intergalactic end of the techno universe. Now they've turned their attention to the duo's original sequel, The Second Phase. Opener 'Love Honey' remains warm, dreamy and classy, with vocal samples from a Paradise Garage favourite rubbing shoulders with mazy vibraphone solos, elongated piano work and rich organ licks atop a Larry Heard-meets-NJ garage-house groove. 'The Verge' blurs the boundaries between artful bleep and jacking deep house, while 'When Luv's The Feeling' sits somewhere between classic garage-house and piano-powered Italo-house.
