Doug Shorts is a well-regarded Chicago funk veteran who has a couple of new jams out this summer. This one, like most of his recent work, is another jam that blends the funk styles of PPU and Tom XL Middleton with a sun-bathed West Coast feel. Boogie and soul bubble up through the crisp, analogue grooves that are aimed squarely at the ass, while Shorts's almost deadpan vocal is low-key but high-quality. Cosmic Slide's opening mix is red hot and ready to blow up the spot and the instrumental turns up the funk. You don't wanna snooze on these jams.
