Release Date: 4th June 2021
'In 1949, two young Argentinian child prodigies met and made music together for the first time – Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim – the rest, as they say, is history. Childhood friends, born a year apart in Buenos Aires, they rank as two of the world’s golden musicians as well as incomparable pianists, and over the years they have developed a close artistic partnership, “Barenboim brings out the best in her, she in him“ (The Guardian). To celebrate Martha Argerich’s 80th birthday on 5th June, Deutsche Grammophon is proud to release her first recording of Debussy’s Fantaisie accompanied by Maestro Daniel Barenboim and “his” Staatskapelle Berlin. To complete the programme Daniel Barenboim brings back two of his closest collaborators, Michael Barenboim for the Violin Sonata and rising star Kian Soltani for the Cello Sonata - two young musicians he knows very well from their critically-acclaimed recordings and concerts in recent years at Pierre Boulez Saal, Berlin. To complete this survey of Debussy’s work, Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle present one of the composer’s most famous works – La mer.
