Here we showcase the funky side of Northern Soul which has captured the imagination of our soul brothers and sisters across Europe and a growing number of progressive clubs in the U.K.
Our eclectic blend borrows its name from title track “Soul Street” by Ricky Allen; a super-rare cut written and produced by Mel London and originally released to no acclaim on his Chicago based Tam-boo label circa 1968. Allen is joined by familiar faces such as southern soulsters Alder Ray Black & Eddie Bo, our hit artists Betty Harris, Tina Turner & Aaron Neville, compilation debut Lenny McDaniel and unreleased at the time tracks from Josephine Taylor & Alvin Cash.
This new 180gm heavyweight audiophile vinyl ‘Soul Street’ compilation is presented in a single sleeve with new artwork. ‘Soul Street’ joins a growing catalogue of premium music on Charly Records imprint Club Soul - including the 12-track up-front, eclectic, super-rare, funky-edged and feel-good dancefloor soul LP ‘Time & Place’ in conjunction with Soul Shack DJ’s, and newly compiled records that celebrate the clubs of the original Northern Soul Scene - The Scene Club, The Twisted Wheel, Wigan Casino Soul Club, Catacombs and The Golden Torch.
