Over the course of more than 10 years, McAllen, Texas-based Damien Duque's City of Dawn project has been refining a distinctive ambient language that deals in texture, patience and introspection. Silent Portrait continues this fine work with two expansive pieces that unfold in slow, tidal movements. Up first is 'Muted Colors Collide With Silent Screams' where guitar tones dissolve into a soft electronic haze that's quietly melancholic but suffused with warmth. There is a therapeutic quality in the slowly evolving scapes then 'Yet Garden's Silence Is Made Of Sounds' is even more sparse - the lo-fi drift of synths passing by like far away clouds. It's a perfectly contemplative space where time melts away, and you're utterly lost in the moment.
