Continuing his recent onslaught of releases, Bristol’s hip-hop connoisseur and 45’ maestro Scott Hendy AKA Boca 45 is set to drop the third instalment of his 2020 Donuts series. Teaming up with The Heavy’s vocalist Swaby and long-time friends and collaborators Bryan Munich Allstars, this package comes in the form of a one-two punch and it lands on the 1st June.

After kicking off the 2020 Donuts project with Hannah Williams and the ‘Powerful’ single back in January, Scott has pricked up the ears of some of the biggest names in the business, and each exclusive set of 300 vinyl’s per release are being snapped up rapidly on each release day. Now starting off the spring / summer with release #3, it’s no secret that the Donuts are building up a loyal following, and ‘It’s All There’ / ‘Hot Wheels (The Chase)’ are no exception.

Overflowing with attitude from the get-go, ‘It’s All There’ is brimming with flair throughout. A smooth rumbling bassline lays down the foundation for guitar work that Prince would be proud of. With a solid backbeat, synth stabs throughout and one of the coolest vocal hooks you’ll hear in a long time – this is a serious dancefloor weapon that brings the good vibes from start to finish. The voice of genre-boundary smashers The Heavy takes lead on this, Kelvin Swaby is possibly most recognised for his 10-year+ career with the Bath band, and more notably their smash hit "How You Like Me Now?," which they even performed on David Letterman. It can be heard on Hollywood Blockbusters around the globe.

On the flipside, ‘Hot Wheels (The Chase)’ sounds like something straight out of a Tarantino movie. A cover of Badder Than Evil’s 1973 track, this revamp is a real grooving, upbeat, cheeky record with plenty of guitar hooks and disco drumming. Featuring The Bryan Munich Allstars (Geoff Barrow (Portishead/Beak) / Ben Salisbury, Billy Fuller (Beak/Robert Plant Bass Player), Jerry Crozier Cole & Ant Poploski), this is a who’s who of music royalty taking time out of their football team to flex their studio muscles and cover a very rare vinyl. In fact, they appeared on Boca’s 2019 LP ‘Forty-Five,’ with the track ‘Bryan Munich Theme.’ Geoff and Ben also just provided the score for critically acclaimed American thriller series Devs. On creating the 3rd Donut, Scott added:

“I’m now halfway through the 2020 Donuts and here’s a special one for y’all. This one took a lot of work pulling it together! I have known of (Kelvin) Swaby since the early 90s. Although I’m from Bristol, I (ill advised) went to Sixth Form College in Bath.

There was a popular hip-hop crew there called "Perno & Black,” they were kind of local Bath celebrities and one of the MCs was Kelv (Swaby). 10 plus years later, whispers came down the A4 that Swaby was no longer an MC, he’d become a HOT soul / funk singer. In 2006, he jumped on three tracks on my 2nd LP "Vertigo Sounds.” Stepchild, Swaby & I formed a live trio, “The Boca 45 Experience” and played a host of gigs around Europe including a jump off sessions at Cargo in London & the legendary Jelly Jazz.

Swaby’s band “The Heavy” went on to become a phenomenal success story. I’ve been pestering poor Swaby to jump on another beat with me for years but he’s always crazy busy. Luckily, he was keen to be part of the "2020 Donuts" project so we made it happen. I hope that you’ll agree that ‘It’s All There’ was worth the wait?

On my semi-autobiographical LP “Forty Five, I got together some of the fine Gentlemen I’ve been playing football with for many years. Our (rubbish) team from the Bristol Casuals League is called “Bryan Munich” and we got into the studio and came up with “The Bryan Munich Theme.” Getting this band back together for my idea of doing a Bristolian cover version of the B-Boy Classic “Hot Wheels (The Chase)” was hard beyond belief. Sometimes I thought it would had been easier putting The Beatles back together! We managed to finally get back in a room in March shortly before lockdown and what you hear on the record is take 2 LIVE from Invada studios, Bristol mixed down by my good buddy Geoff Barrow.

It’s now something of the norm for Boca 45 to be working with an array of huge names. His last album was released on Mass Appeal (home of Nas, J Dilla, DJ Shadow, Run the Jewels amongst many others), and his versatile sound often results in collaborating with a range of talent from across the globe. More recently those artists include; Sergio Pizzorno (Kasabian), MC Emskee and Louis Baker on his critically acclaimed single ‘Soul On Top.’ Bringing the studio to the stage, Boca’s eccentric and eclectic jukebox of sounds and styles have graced some of most prestigious venues in the world too, he’s a Glastonbury regular and had a personal request from Banksy to play at the opening night of his Dismal Land Show. Now it’s time for another duo of tasty musical delights, as Boca 45 sprinkles even more flavours onto his 2020 Donuts series. They’re freshly baked, make sure you get them while they’re hot.
