Black Sheep is the influential hip‑hop duo from Queens, New York, formed by Andres “Dres” Vargas Titus and William “Mista Lawnge” McLean.

Although both members hail from New York, they met as teenagers in Sanford, North Carolina, where their families had relocated.

Their second album Non‑Fiction arrived in 1994, reaching No. 14 on the U.S. R&B/Hip‑Hop chart and continuing their signature blend of jazzy hip-hop and clever, tongue‑in‑cheek storytelling. The album featured two singles “Without a Doubt” and “North South East West”.

Following its release, the group remained largely inactive throughout the decade, with the exception of Dres, who recorded a solo project under the moniker Dres The Black Sheep. Black Sheep eventually returned in 2006 with their long‑awaited third album 8WM / Novakane.

Shortly thereafter, Mista Lawnge departed, while Dres has continued to release music under the Black Sheep name.
