Cleveland-born singer, guitarist and songwriter Beloyd Taylor may be best known for co-writing Earth, Wind & Fire’s ‘Getaway’, but his own recordings have long carried a special allure for collectors. In 1977 he cut a full album for 20th Century Records, though only two tracks ever emerged on 7” – the soaring modern soul of ‘Get Into Your Life’ and the breezy stepper ‘Today All Day’. Original copies have changed hands for hundreds, making this first official reissue on Expansion a serious event. Beloyd’s smooth vocal delivery, intricate guitar work and warm, uplifting arrangements mark him out as a talent who deserved far wider recognition. A lost gem from r&b’s golden era, finally accessible again.
