Although nowhere near as celebrated as Motor City peers Moodymann, Theo Parrish and Omar-S, Alton Miller remains one of Detroit's premier deep house producers, some 32 years into a decidedly storied career. His ability to craft emotive, melodious and spiritually-enriching club music has not dimmed, either - as this fourth outing on Rawax's Motor City Edition series proves. Miller begins with the effortlessly smooth, spacey and warming roll of 'Where Did We Go Wrong', before opting for filter trickery, low-slung bass and loose-limbed house breaks on 'I Wish It Was'. Over on side B, 'Knowledge of the Pygmies' is an attractive fusion of layered hand percussion, African vocal samples and booming bass, while 'Home Made' sounds like a long-lost Ron Trent record with added Detroit electronics.
