With Movements For Four Dancers, Al Wootton presents a collection of four long-form rhythmic pieces conceived for contemporary dance, released via Trule.

Drawing inspiration from electro-acoustic and modern composition, free jazz, techno and dub, the EP explores the space between structured composition and unpredictability, creating an immersive sonic landscape where shifting rhythms, organic instrumentation and minimal electronics converge.

Free from the constraints of a unified time signature, percussion moves through constantly evolving patterns, embracing chance, repetition and unexpected rhythmic shifts. Random events are encouraged, allowing the music to develop an organic sense of movement and momentum.

Hand percussion and acoustic instruments, including classical guitar, clarinet and oud, sit alongside highly textured, minimal electronics. This deliberately sparse palette creates a sound that is both restrained and richly atmospheric, balancing the intimacy of acoustic performance with the depth and detail of electronic sound design.

Designed for the physicality of contemporary dance as much as for focused, immersive listening, Movements For Four Dancers treats rhythm not simply as a foundation for movement, but as a fluid, unpredictable force in its own right. Across four extended pieces, patterns emerge, dissolve and reform, creating space for physical interpretation and deeper sonic exploration.
