Perhaps wisely realising they couldn’t out-do ‘Choronzon’ in terms of pure unbridled evil, Akercocke changed tact slightly for this follow-up, taking their sound to even more progressive and far-out places

Whilst songs like ‘Verdelet’ and ‘Seduced’ deliver exactly the kind of grim tremolo riffing and insane blastbeats you’d expect from the band, tracks like the labyrinthine ‘Shelter From The Sand’ found their love of bands like Rush and Mercyful Fate shining through like never before.
