A caravan on a strange planet ... a car chase on the highway against driving direction...a wobbly, old train with plush carpets and bizarre passengers ... these are some of the settings from which the action of the respective piece develops ... new and different everytime.

The Kancha Lanka Koalition from Berlin plays energetic and emotionally direct music with diverse influences while elegantly circumventing all cliches. Nested grooves and twisted melodies, angular and flowing, structured and improvised, rich in colors, textures and aromas - Kancha Lanka is Bangla (Bengali) and means green chilli.

A German-Indian guitarist (Julian Datta), a German-Turkish drummer (Tayfun Schulzke) and a Chilean bassist (Nico Espinoza) meet up in a rehearsal room in Neuk lln, plus the Balkan echoes of the Austrian trumpeter (Richard Koch) - that gives a spicy sauce. Neither Miles nor Meters, neither Sch nberg nor Shankar - Datta’s compositions set a very specific direction, slamming the doors to familiar rooms and leading into the jungle, where everyone depends on everyone else and has to react fast.

Funk, rock, jazz, European modernism, Balkan and oriental echoes - the Kancha Lanka Koalition from Berlin plays energetic and emotionally direct music with diverse influences while elegantly circumventing all clich s. There are atmospheric settings, rich in colors, textures and aromas, and collaborative storytelling with nested grooves and twisted melodies.
