The Brit Funk Association have drawn heavily on the giants of the golden age of music that inspired the sounds of the original Light of the World, Beggar & Co and Hi Tension. There are clear musical references to bands like Kool & The Gang, The Blackbyrds and The Crusaders as well as two stellar versions of the classics in “Pick Up The Pieces” by The Average White Band and a magnificent rendition of the anthemic “Always There”. The album also highlights the musical prowess of the band members with some excellent solos in the tradition of some of the finest contemporary musicians around. “Ancestral Voices” is an apt title as the band take also reflect on some of the fantastic music that has driven the genre of jazz funk and soul through the years, sterling brass, driving rhythms. These are on display along with one or two more introspective tracks such as the title track with its tight vocal harmonies. “Ancestral Voices” clearly shows The Brit Funk Association at the top of their game, tracks from the album already going down a storm at their live shows.

Let It Flow (5.21)
Pick Up The Pieces (3.39)
Take It in Stages (Write Those Pages) (3:58)
Angel Eyes (6:01)
Ancestral Voices (4:51)
Freedom’ Dancin’ (5:40)
Always There (5:30)
Driftin’ (4:12)
Snowfall (7:05)
Elevation (3:48)

Format: CD
Catalogue No.: EXCDP79
Release Date: 17 Nov 2023
Genre: Soul

● “Paulette McWilliams is a great jazz singer - better yet, a great singer”. With a career spanning several decades and collaborations with legendary artists, Paulette McWilliams continues to captivate audiences with her extraordinary talent and undeniable charisma. Born in Chicago, her musical journey took flight when she made her first public appearance on the television show "Little Stars" at the age of 11, performing alongside the iconic Sammy Davis Jr. This early exposure set the stage for a remarkable career that would leave an indelible mark on the music industry. She joined Rufus as original lead singer before having a daughter and asking the group to consider her friend Chaka Khan (The rest is history). Recognising her extraordinary talent, producer Quincy Jones later invited her to join his Body Heat promotional tour, where she showcased her remarkable backing and lead vocals. Her collaboration with Jones extended to his album "Mellow Madness," further solidifying her reputation as a sought-after vocalist. She helped Quincy by recording backgrounds on Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Till You Get Enough”. She toured and recorded with Marvin Gaye & Luther Vandross. This album is a collaboration with Luther’s former drummer Ivan Hampden Jr. They wrote, performed and produced 13 original songs for this project.

1 Tell Me You Love Me (4:37)
2 Take A Drink Of Me (4:51)
3 These Are The Sweet Things (4:46)
4 Share (3:58)
5 New Tunes Old Grooves (4:36)
6 Baby Think Again (4:16)
7 Love Is Why (4:27)
8 Sometimes Your Eyes (4:26)
9 Teddy’s Got A Plan (4:23)
10 What I Wanna Do To You (5:39)
11 Stop & Listen (4:42)
12 That’s How I Am (3:58)
13 I Feel Ya (4:29)

Format: CD
Catalogue No.: EXP2CD53
Release Date: 17 Nov 2023
Genre: Soul

Expansion revive the ‘2 on 1’ albums on CD series with the remarkable work of Rockie Robbins, four albums in total across two CDs – all taken from the original master tapes. Rockie Robbins, born Edward W. Robbins Jr. comes from Minnesota, Minneapolis. In his teens he sang in a group The Mystics and sent a demo of his voice to A&M Records in Los Angeles. Here begins the story of three albums recorded for the label, then another for MCA.
From these first two albums, “Rockie Robbins” (1979) and “You And Me” (1980) we hear his masterful voice combined with musicians, arrangements and productions from a special era of soul music excellence. On his debut there are arrangements and productions by Richard Evans (Natalie Cole, Peabo Bryson, Marlena Shaw, Linda Williams) and Johnny Pate (The Impressions, B.B. King, Betty Everett). Singles were the self-penned “If I Ever Lose You” and the Earth Wind & Fire cover “Be Ever Wonderful”, the latter making the US R&B charts in 1979. The album came out despite the original recordings being accidentally erased meaning the whole project had to be started again from scratch. Over half the songs were penned by Rockie himself, “I Can Hardly Wait” written especially by Skip Scarborough with Wanda Hutchinson of The Emotions. The re-recording was a success and has left a lasting impact on fans.
From his “You And Me” album, the title track became a signature song and Rockie’s biggest hit single. It was produced by Bobby Martin (PIR Records, The Manhattans, L.T.D.). It reached the US R&B Top 10 and stayed on that chart for over five months. The album included songs composed by Sam Dees, Larry Graham, Leon Ware, Zane Grey and Allee Willis, the latter in collaboration with Robbins himself from the same period she co-wrote “September” and “Boogie Wonderland” for Earth Wind & Fire.

Track Listing
1 I Can Hardly Wait (3:27)
2 If I Ever Lose You (4:20)
3 Funk Street (4:14)
4 When I Think Of You (4:30)
5 I Love You Only (4:00)
6 Don’t Deny Me (4:25)
7 Be Ever Wonderful (5:56)
8 Sho’ Is Bad (5:20)
9 Miss Dynamite (5:12)
10 You And Me (4:45)
11 Hang Tough (4:57)
12 After Loving You (5:40)
13 Girl I’m Gonna Get Ya
14 Together (4:56)
15 Point of View (2:58)
16 Lost In Love Again (4:49)
17 I Never Knew (2;36)
18 For The Sake Of A Memory (3:52)

Format: CD
Catalogue No.: EXP2CD54
Release Date: 17 Nov 2023
Genre: Soul

Expansion revive the ‘2 on 1’ albums on CD series with the remarkable work of Rockie Robbins, four albums in total across two CDs – all taken from the original master tapes FOR THE FIRST TIME. Here begins the story of three albums recorded for the label, then another for MCA.
“I Believe In Love” is Rockie’s third album for A&M Records and it’s a masterpiece. 1981 was a golden year for highly crafted soul music by extremely gifted singers, songwriters, arrangers, musicians and producers, all super-engineered to perfection. Rockie contributes to the song writing here and is the sole composer on one of the stand out songs “Give Our Love A Chance”. He is also co-writer on the single, his signature song “Time To Think” with Ron ‘Have Mercy’ Kersey, and also writes alongside Skip Scarborough, Jerry Peters and Alton McClain on this album.
With Rockie’s exceptional voice he can also take someone else’s song and make it is own, super evident with the huge hit “You And Me” (originally by the group Exile). On the “I Believe In Love” album it’s so hard to immediately recall original versions of “For You, For Love” by Average White Band, “My Old Friend” by Al Jarreau, and “Talk To Me” by Al Green.
Then came “Rockie Robbins”, the MCA self-titled album from 1985 hits this new groove spot on with songs and productions in the main from the Silverspoon team. There is also work from a producer from his A&M days, Richard Evans who brings a more classic sound to “We Belong Together”, a song co-written by Maxayn Lewis (of the Ikettes) and bass player Wornell Jones. Leon Sylvers personally co-writes another of the stand out songs “Goodbyes Don’t Last Forever”, the single “I’ve Got Your Number” and upbeat “Work For Love” further endearing this album to Rockie fans.

Track listing
1 Time To Think (4:45)
2 I Believe In Love (3:55)
3 My Old Friend (4:16)
4 Look Before You Leap (3:55)
5 Give Our Love A Chance (4:12)
6.
