For some reason or another, there seems to be a sort of restricting fence around the electronic dance music scene at the moment. In true Trojan style, Die Vögel batter and ram the wall until a hole appears; a hole big enough for all the gleely squealing party people to crawl through. Out and on to freedom! It's a brave new world and help is at hand for the weary of ear. Listen in to the dream-like canons, freely dissonant brass orchestrations and hypnotic-psychedelic beats. The arrangements are clever, without relying on samples and tried and tested techniques. Off they stroll, Mense Reents and Jakobus Siebels, breathing in the fresh air, enjoying a clear view of a history of nocturnal dance music that goes back beyond 1986 and Chicago and is today international electronic folklore. It was the machines that taught Die Vögel duo to play their instruments in a different way and from them the machines have learned what makes a musician tick. That's how songs like ‚Fratzengulasch' come about: A tribal meditation, and a beautiful canon sung by Jakobus and Ebba Durstewitz, otherwise known as the band Ja König Ja. Or the glorious ‚Maikäferbenzin': There are sub binaural sounds on this track that get your brain hemispheres swinging in perfect synchronicity, on a frequency generally only experienced when in a trance. And there they're left, swinging away until the last third of the song where an abrupt saxophone break briefly interrupts, only to deliver the listener safely back into an absolute state of bliss and felicity. Here is the second installment. First up is \u003cbr\u003eRoman Flügel, co-founder of the legendary label powerhouse \u003cbr\u003eOngaku\/Klang\/Playhouse, not to men[on his more recent releases on Clone and Live At Robert Johnson. We have no idea what kind of app he used, but somehow he transformed the [tle track \"Amygdala\" from a laid-back, wind-chiming electro-pop number into a clock-working tech-house fairy tale. Roman wisely and tastefully retains the original guest spot from Milosh (of the duo Rhye), offering a gri}er backdrop for his lulling vocal delivery. Next comes Robag Whrume, who is no stranger to any Pampa fan, having released an album and a mix CD with us, aside from his countless other works. Here he has taken the pleasant puffiness of DJ Koze's \"Nices Wölkchen\" and incubated it in a deep house cocoon. The witch-shi`ed voice of guest singer Apparat is given a new life, hovering amidst a mesmerizing mechanical groove. The 37 year old constantly horny wunderkind producer has made a habit of creatively foiling expectations, and works also under the pseudonyms Adolf Noise, Swahimi and recently Madima Lokkah to redefine the boundaries of electronic music. This daring concept works perfectly in the title track 'Rue Burnout' - it is very rare that you find house music this excitingly light-fooded and precisely transparent. The man has been hitting the bulls eye of public perception several times in the past, meeting everything it takes to get a crowd going with an intent on the detail when it comes to his arrangements and sound. These new two cuts seem nothing less than the essence of his abilities.\u003cbr\u003eThere is \"In Your Eyes\", the name lending A side to this EP, showcasing a rather pensive mood. It's just a few bars for the compound of kickdrum, tuned hi-hat tambourine and shimmering background noise until the first chords of an improvised piano-piece are tenderly laid upon the beat. Add a synth-motive coming back and forth and you'll have the main ingredients to this - in every sense of the word - floor-moving tune. Accordingly, the arrangement won't aim for an all too obvious sensationalism and rather opts for a flowing and intertwining call and response of its elements, ultimately resulting in a staggering impact anyway.\u003cbr\u003eIn comparison, \"As Above So Below\" on the flipside is adding a fair amount of emphasis. It unfolds in a dry and dense sounding beat-architecture that's suspense-packed with shaker sounds and subtextual field recordings. Kozalla, meanwhile, jams his tongue firmly into his cheek as usual before producing a brittle click-clack of a rhythm filled out very sparsely with thin digital tones and bits of sub bass, and overlaying the best known work from Jamaican dub poet Michael Smith. The indecipherable lyrics and inclusion of a translation with the press pack suggested to me the usual Koze sense of humour, but after reading about Smith's outspoken political views and untimely death as a result, and the fact that this is billed as a \"tribute,\" I wasn't so sure. Could this be a serious side to Koze? The sparse construction likewise leaves the listener unsure of whether to groove or muse. So I did, which took me half a year. During this time I worked a lot with piano Rhodes and field recordings. Stefan recognized this phase and plowed me a way to create an album. \"Wupp Dek\" was done right after \"Thora Vukk”: A rhythmic clangour touched by a smooth pad Schablitzki's voice sings in a promising way: \"Like it, like it, like it\". Its the dark gloominess of those soundscapes that make the clubby melodic tracks shine. After the first bridge the clanking glasses of the album version of \"Thora Vukk\" sound like sung with the tongues of angels. Where the percussions of the 12\"-Edit spread the party vibe, the album version is enchanting with grace. \"Bommsen Böff\" with its unexpected break sounds like a postcard out of sound from a past era. Schabliztki explains: \"Those three tracks brought the album to life.\" After those were done, the creative Eros took possession of him. \"I can't really tell anything about \"Pnom Gobal\" I was already in the flow when i made that one.
