Side A opens with Manu Dibango's 'The Panther' from 1973's Africadelic, a low-slung Afro-funk groove with stalking bass and suspenseful horns that feels fresh precisely because it hasn't been overexposed. The tension and texture make it a hidden gem for selectors chasing nuance over recognition. Side B shifts to Latin jazz-funk, spotlighting Ray Barretto's 'Together' from 1969. Rolling congas, warm keys and a communal energy make it ideal for dance floors or DJ sets that prize rhythmic life over familiar loops. First released in 1999, 'My Soul, Your Soul' still sounds beautifully strange. The title track moves through a dense tangle of swinging percussion and low-end pressure, while tiny soulful piano motifs flicker somewhere above the groove like distant lights through fog. 'Electricity' drifts further inward through shuffling drums, little FX speckles and David Holness' ghostly vocal murmurs appearing and disappearing into the mix. It's originally from 2006 but if this one were to drop now you wouldn't suspect it was almost 20 years old. As always with Pittman, everything is muted and low-key as well as lo-fi. The pad drums on 'Obsession (Datsallivdatsalliv~'^**!!)' are suggestive rather than in your face, and the depths of his bass are bottomless as natty, barely-there synth patterns unfold up top.
