Berthiaume also describes Mimi as a record about “getting older” and “figuring out new parts of life”—but despite any claims of transitional growing pains from the band, Mimi is a record bursting with new energy and life, a vibrance that’s owed in no small part to Gougoux joining the band full-time after pitching in on live performances in the past.

“I come more from a background of electronic music, so it was nice to involve that with the band more,” he explains, and Mimi contains a distinct rhythmic pulse reminiscent of classic era-post-punk’s own melding of dance and rock textures. Over bright, chiming guitars and ascending synths, Robert addresses his looming mortality on “Mourir Demain”: “I wrote it when my girlfriend and I were shopping for life insurance,” he laughs. With our little daughter growing up, we also considered making our will. I said to myself, ‘Oh shit, from now on I’m slowly starting to plan my death.”

Don’t mistake this as music about dead ends, though, as Mimi embraces and champions unfettered creativity while paving a way for Corridor’s own bright future. “We just focused on making a record that sounded the way we wanted,” Gougoux exclaims while discussing the band’s aims. “There were no limitations when it came to what was possible.”

Initial LOSER copies pressed on BLUE vinyl

Tracklisting
Phase IV
Mon Argent
Jump Cut
Caméra
Chenil
Porte Ouverte
Mourir Demain
Pellicule

Fat White Family - Loren’s lyrics move like tinsel, shimmering bravely, then just as quickly, curling, fragile under the spotlight. Loren has always been obsessed with fame. Not with famous people, but with the electricity that perverts attention – the crushing desire to be truly seen. And all of Loren, and this obsession, is in this album. He grew up in the Valley, forced to hide his Barbies from his father, so the closet was a gorgeous Spanish ranch house on a gilded cul-de-sac crawling with celebrities. Naturally this gay boy wanted to be a child star so his mother secretly shuttled him to tap and jazz and figure skating lessons. I’ve got hands and feet to put in the concrete, Loren croons, in “Hollywood Blvd,” a song which clangs with brawny bravado. But “Gay Angels” reminds us that Loren’s infatuation with stardom is inextricably linked with his queerness and his own desire to live outside of fear. To be famous is to be out. And his desire to share truth feels urgent. To listen to Loren is to understand there is no choice; the songs must tear through the air right now. This very second. I see myself tearing and splitting and becoming a trampoline, he belts in “No Man,” breaking our hearts right alongside his. Part poet, part theatrical diva, Loren loops together the tragedy of breathing on this planet, because like Eartha Kitt or Cat Stevens, Loren is at his core – an incredible story teller. This whole album is a shrine, a mantle atop a blazing fire of life, spread with the memorabilia of Loren; all of the pain and lust dazzling on unabashed view.

This is a songwriter’s album. We live in his brain, riding his genre bending emotions, on a wave of modern pop. And the songs lift, they are anthems of belief, “Hollywood Blvd,” “I’m a Slut,” “Euphemism,” “Gay Angels,” are all odes to triumphing over the corroding powers of fear and doubt. Telepathic group-think opens a window to fresh fields of fusion: funk-jazz heads, polyrhythmic skeletons, ambient pastorals, post-kraut drones and shimmering soundtrack reveries. A music of sustained tension and deep atmosphere, marked by subtle, shifting dynamics playing out in an open sound field.

PRESS RELEASE TEXT
Missing out on that super-chill, uber-jittery minimal groove thing? Let’s get real, real Ghosted again.

Oren Ambarchi has been collaborating with the Fire! trio (Mats Gustafsson, Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin) for over a decade – and both Johan and Andreas played on Oren’s Live Hubris as well. Oren and Johan began music-making together back in the early aughts – but it wasn’t until 2021 that the three of them got together to record music. That became the first Ghosted album. When they were done, it was clear they had founded a new group. A music of sustained tension and deep atmosphere marked by subtle, shifting dynamics, Ghosted was released in May of 2022 to psyched response everywhere; the trio embarked upon an ongoing series of concert bookings around Europe, with loads of other people in the world still hoping to have the chance to be in the room at the next show. Two years on, Ghosted has gone through several represses, now it’s time for the “dreaded follow up album”! Rather than go back to the well, the guys decided to tear everything down and start all over again, reimagining themselves from scratch.

Just kidding! As we’ve noted, Oren, Johan and Andreas have been playing together for years and years, developing an essential telepathy within their shared space. They get each other and feed each other’s music processes on an elemental level. Why change that? What made the most sense was to go back to Daneil Bengtsson at Studio Rymden in Stockholm for a couple days, then have Oren and Joe Talia mix and Joe master it at Good Mixture in Melbourne again, then get Pål Dybwik to do some well-distinctive cover art, and once more, call it a record.

That’s just what they did — and it should be no surprise at all that the new Ambarchi/ Berthling/Werliin album looks and sounds as engrossing as their debut, if not more so! Ghosted II has a definitively fresh quality radiating throughout. The mutual feeling among the three players goes deep, allowing for lots more to say every time they get together — a further recombination of elements, a new expedition through alternative angles... there’s always more, and incredibly, it’s all improvised, with next-to-nothing prepared going in and minimal overdubs after they’ve laid things down. References are shared in shorthand, with just a single word, like “Santana,” or “Police” acting as working titles for certain pieces on this record (have a guess!). It’s a disservice to call them jams: above and beyond the innate feel of the songs, there’s a strong sense of structure, informed by the band’s communal aesthetic, and edified immeasurably by their time spent in concert the last couple years.

As noted at the top, these guys balance their music improbably between a relaxed feel and a nervy resolve, as each member holds down their corner in an open sound field. Making Ghosted II, the band found that there’s a different kind of tension making something for an established project rather than the kind one feels making something for the first time — and they used this new variety, as before, as a kind of fuel — driving their terse minimalism fruit-fully through the process of succumbing to and then transcending guilty pleasures. Finding fresh territory in funk sketches, jazzy heads, ambient pastorals and droning soundtrack pieces, Ambarchi, Berthling and Werliin compellingly haunt a mad variety of spaces, leaving us wanting to get Ghosted II.

Track List:
En
Två
Tre
Fyra

Format: LP
Catalogue No.: ATO0670
Barcode: 880882620516
Release Date: 26 Apr 2024
Genre: Dub

Envisioned in the style of early dancehall records, Pachy García took upon the task of recreating the sonic endeavors of Scientist, King Tubby, Lee "Scratch" Perry and the great engineers and players of instruments of early Jamaican reggae music. Both titles were issued in partnership with Barcelona-based Jordi Soley and Carlos Agustin Calembert of Elemental Music.
 ‘In Perfect Harmony’ is co-produced by the legendary, hit-making film producer Frank Marshall, whose glittering resumé includes the Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, and Jason Bourne franchises, among many other box office blockbusters. Marshall’s father was jazz guitarist and composer Jack Marshall; he is a featured player on the Baker-Sheldon recordings, which were cut at United Audio, the Tustin, CA, studio facility he operated with partner Hank Quinn, who co-produced the original ’72 date. Veteran music executive and TV/film producer, Jeff Pollack —whose recent credits include The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash, Laurel Canyon: A Place in Time, Rhythm + Flow and McCartney: 3,2,1 — is an executive producer on the album. Besides the leaders and Marshall, the session features three top Los Angeles rhythm players: pianist Dave Frishberg (who later penned some of the witty tunes the Sheldon famously sang for ABC’s Saturday-morning children’s programming, Schoolhouse Rock), bassist Joe Mondragon, and drummer Nick Ceroli.
 Feldman says, “Co-producing this album with the great film producer Frank Marshall, seeing it crystallize and come together, has been one of the biggest thrills of my career….These recordings are simply remarkable, and I'm grateful that we're able to keep finding gems like this that have been tucked away for so many years”. In August 2022, Frank Marshall brought the tapes that became ‘In Perfect Harmony’ to Feldman. Marshall had been going through boxes in storage from the family's Lido Isle home and recalls in his notes for the package, “The sessions went well, and, when they finished mixing, Dad took the tapes to L.A. to shop them. He had several record labels interested, but on September 20, 1973, he died suddenly of a heart attack. The tapes got packed away in our garage and were never released. Until now. After 50 years in storage, we can finally enjoy and celebrate this long-lost gem of an album.”
 This session was projected as one of the first in years to feature Chet Baker in a leadership role. He had been largely inactive in the studio since suffering a savage assault on the street in the San Francisco Bay area in August 1966. The beating broke several of the musician’s teeth and forced him to be fitted with dentures, which left him uncomfortable and wary of playing. But Sheldon, a close friend and peer of Baker, tried to coax him back to work. “One day during the summer of 1972,” Frank Marshall recalls,. “Jack Sheldon had an idea: ‘Just think, Chetie, if we do an album together, you’ll only have to play on half of it!’ Chet liked the idea, but was still hesitant. To make him comfortable, the two Jacks did what they did best — get great musicians together” In his notes devoted to the music, historian Richard S. Ginell writes, “This newly-discovered session comes from a time when Sheldon was riding high on the Merv Griffin show while Baker was struggling, out of the music for a while trying to repair his embouchure. Jazz historians say that Baker’s ‘comeback’ started in 1973, but this session predates that by about a year. Sheldon and Jack Marshall set it up as a way to ease their friend gradually onto the scene again by sharing the date and enlisting first-class help from some of L.A.’s finest resident jazzers”. Splitting the vocal chores down the middle with five leads apiece, Baker and Sheldon essayed largely standard repertoire (augmented by one Sheldon original and a Mexican ballad he performed in Spanish) in relaxed style. A lone instrumental, the bossa nova ‘Once I Loved’ rounds out the album. The approaches of the chill, laid-back Baker and the exuberant, ebullient Sheldon were a study in contrast. Ginell says, “Sheldon had a bright, brash sound rooted in the bebop gospel according to Dizzy Gillespie. Baker, by contrast, was a cooler customer, more in the Miles Davis manner, and as such became a poster boy for what was labelled West Coast Jazz, a label that was plastered rightly or wrongly on anyone who came from California. They differed even more as singers — Sheldon ever the lively hipster who sometimes seemed to be kidding the lyrics in the Great American Songbook; Baker ever the callow, fluid, subtly swinging presence who always sounded as if he was barely out of his teens.” Happily, after half a century on the shelf, the tapes were in good shape, and engineer Lutthans writes, “In December 2023, I had the pleasure of threading up the tape on the late Doug Sax's customized, all-tube electronics tape machine feeding the tube amplified Neumann lathe, hitting play, and cutting the masters 100% all analog”

Tracklisting
This Can’t Be Love
Just Friends
Too Blue
But Not For Me
Historia de un Amor
Once I Loved
You Fascinate Me
When I Fall In Love
I Cried For You
I’m Old Fashioned
Evil Blues

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0130/8714/6043/files/1_e1f22d75-db3d-4f89-bfe9-858ef2832387.jpg?v=1711734461
faun-fables-family-album-2lp
Faun Fables - Family Album [2LP]

Format: 2LP
Catalogue No.: DC262
Barcode: 0781484026211
Release Date: 26 Apr 2024
Genre: Folk/Americana

 Happy 20th birthday to ‘Family Album’, the third recording of Faun Fables and the first one released on Drag City.
 These songs belong to sons and daughters, entwined and orphaned, domesticated and feral; to all the family vines unravelling from a ball of yarn.
 In this family album, runaways graze the wild together, a mother finds her courage playing the piano, dogs become thieves and wolves, and a son is taken too soon. Her focus took a pivotal turn in that direction in 1997 with a solo quest through the UK and Ireland and their bardic traditions; singing songs in clubs and homes, all the while undergoing a pastoral, psychological experience with the land. Upon her return to the States, a fateful meeting with Oakland, CA born-and-raised Nils Frykdahl (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum) moved McCarthy back to the West to begin a new creative collaboration in the thriving hills and art community of the San Francisco Bay Area.
 Since 1999, Faun Fables have released six albums and performed their animist, otherworldly folk music across North America and Europe, with shows in Australia, New Zealand and Israel, as well. Dawn’s writing and voice (described by The New Yorker as “one of the more compelling instruments in contemporary music”) opens hearts and minds with a whisper to a rallying battle cry, further animated by Frykdahl’s adventurous musicality and vocals.
 Dawn has written musical theatre performed by the Idyllwild Arts Academy, among others, and has lent her vocals to Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy on ‘The Letting Go’ and ‘What the Brothers Sang’.
In 2022, Faun Fables debuted their family band, joined onstage by their daughters with vocals, percussion, keyboard and dance.

Tracklisting
Begin
Sleepwalker
Shadowsound
Hela
Traveller
Returning
Train
Beautiful Blade
Mother Twilight
Lightning Rods
Moth
Girl That
Said Goodbye
Washington State
Catch Me
Live Old

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0130/8714/6043/files/0_7329da84-8759-4424-b740-84138949cc34.jpg?v=1711734790
fraught-transfixed-on-dying-light-black-smoked-brown-coloured-vinyl
Fraught - Transfixed On Dying Light [Black smoked brown coloured vinyl]

Format: Coloured Vinyl LP
Catalogue No.: REX2328LPB
Barcode: 8076280110236
Release Date: 26 Apr 2024
Genre: Metal

 Formed in 2018 from the ashes of Coldwar, Warpath, Mortichnia, Wound Upon Wound and Slave Zero, Irish extreme metal band Fraught consolidated to pursue a vision for extreme music encapsulating influences from sludge, death, black and doom metal.
