It is said that Dillon also helped build Perry's Black Ark Studios in 1973-4. In September 1975, Taylor was killed by a van while he was crossing a road. Which makes sense for several reasons. Firstly, the sound of the song is indeed more reminiscent of the Pioneers\/Joe Gibbs work of that time. In fact The Ethiopians did not record with Joe Gibbs, with the exception of The Ring which was released in 1972, four years later, while the Pioneers were routinely involved with Gibbs in 1968. The new Pioneers were reborn as a duo. They recorded several successful singles such as \"Longshot\" \"Jackpot\", \"Catch the Beat\" with Gibbs before joining producer Leslie Kong where they recorded Samfie Man which topped the Jamaican charts. They then recruited George Agard and became a trio again. \u003cbr\u003eThey scored in the charts again with \"Long Shot (Kick De Bucket)\" a sequel to “Long Shot”, the tragic story of a race horse that never won and died racing! “Kick De Bucket” became an instant hit both in Jamaican and in the U.K. particularly among skinheads in 1969. More hits followed and the band moved to the UK in 1970. Over time, their sound changed and became more sophisticated and pop and they eventually recorded soul albums with Eddy Grant as a producer in 1976. He started to sing at school and church and later on moved to U.K. where he kept on singing in clubs in Coventry and Birmingham … He eventually moved to London where he recorded 4 great tracks in 1970 “She Caught The Train” on Joe, “Cora” and “Loving Lover” on Attack, and “Lover” on Trojan, the last three being written by himself. He gained recognition in the late 1960s with songs like \"Having a Party\" for Joe Gibbs, but his most enduring work came through his collaboration with producer Harry Mudie. Hits such as \"The Drifter\" and \"Heart Don't Leap\" cemented his reputation as a major figure in Jamaican music.\u003cbr\u003eBy the mid-1970s, Walks continued his success with the release of \"Margaret,\" which later inspired Lennie Hibbert's instrumental piece \"Margaret's Dream.\" His influence extended far beyond his own recordings — the \"Drifter\" rhythm was revisited by various artists, including Dennis Brown and Cornell Campbell. He moved up and soon recorded nearly thirty tracks at Studio One.\u003cbr\u003eAfter financial and creative clashes, he moved to Joe Gibbs’s Amalgamated Records, refining his craft but still chafing at constraints. After more financial and creative clashes, he founded the Upsetter Records label and in 1968 released “People Funny Boy,” which was a musical dig at Gibbs and catalysed the shift from Rocksteady to Reggae.\u003cbr\u003eFrom 1968 to 1972, he recorded intensively with his studio band the Upsetter and released lots of records. Many of his tracks were big hits in Jamaica and in the UK—his instrumental “The Return of Django” even made the British top five in 1969.\u003cbr\u003eHe quickly became famous for his creative studio techniques and his eccentric personality.\u003cbr\u003ePerry produced several early songs and albums for Bob Marley and the Wailers, including the albums Soul Rebels and Soul Revolution in the early 1970s.\u003cbr\u003ePerry’s sonic experiments with Dub unveiled on “Blackboard Jungle Dub,” where echo chambers became instruments. His back yard Black Ark Studio, built in 1973, served as a four‐track laboratory for Dub and revolutionary productions.
