For years, Garden Centre’s Max Levy has been searching for a steady stream. A stream to watch sports on, a stream to glean information from, a stream to wade in. Occasionally, he’ll immerse himself shin-deep in an actual, physical stream: an activity that pulls him in closest to the hum of the universe. Living is a fractured and fractious experience. A stream is a promise of resonance, unifying our innermost being with our outside reality. This is an album about streams. Levy has already toured extensively across the UK and abroad with the likes of Dry Cleaning and Porridge Radio (with whom Garden Centre shares members). He has also found a fan in Frank Ocean, who has playlisted Garden Centre multiple times on his popular Blonded radio show. Searching For A Stream, however, is a clear step-up for Garden Centre. An exquisitely self-contained world which also seems to expand with each listen, Levy’s latest album proves that there is beauty in the ordinary, oft-missed details of our everyday lives. If only we could stay in the stream long enough to really feel them.

TRACKLISTING:
Hall of Fame
Shock Site
Chicken
Talking on the Phone
Dirt Bike
Sitting on my Chest
Thin
Tannoy
Perfect Stranger
Searching for a Stream
Pool Ball
Valley

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0130/8714/6043/products/1_a32c1aeb-ada2-4bbd-bca7-87fd362bd130.jpg?v=1681832075
come-near-life-experience-pink-vinyl
Come - Near Life Experience [Pink Vinyl]

Format: LP, Pink Vinyl
Catalogue No.: FIRELP695
Barcode: 809236169518
Release Date: 02 Jun 2023
Genre: Rock

Ltd PINK Vinyl, Insert with new liner notes, DL card.

Originally released in 1996, Come’s third album ‘Near Life Experience’ was the sound of a band heading into new territory, refining their dense mix of hypnotic noise-rock, blues and rock’n’roll song-writing. Enriching her compositions for violin with electronic soundscapes and field recordings from their surroundings, the two entered an artistic dialogue that took place inside its own idiosyncratic space outside of conventional time. It is an intimate record in which Klinck’s expressive playing that incorporates unconventional techniques forms the basis of something much bigger: an invitation to inhabit a specific space at a specific time together with the two of them. For an entire week in the spring of 2021, Klinck and Claus stayed at an abandoned monastery surrounded by beautiful gardens, but with no power or running water. The intention was to record some of Klinck’s musical ideas on violin, experiment with electronics and acoustic spaces and to get to know each other on a musical level. This proved to be an inspiring and deeply moving process—and the starting point for more. In the winter of that year, the duo set out to the Spanish Pyrenees to build a DIY studio in a small village on a mountain top and record the eight pieces that form »Picture a Frame.« The idea of losing track of time and space is a theme that found its way in these recordings. The two spent their days and nights reading, walking, talking, cooking and taking care of the animals living there but also experimenting with sound, improvising together and making field recordings. This deep focus on being present in the moment, listening to the world around them and each other resulted in a holistic experience that was translated into music and sound. Klinck and Claus understand this album as a collage, an attempt to evoke the implicit, an essay that suggests a time and space, and a gentle collision between two people that deeply resonate with one another. It’s impossible to argue with that, and even harder not to be drawn into it.

Tracklist: 1) Winter Song (02:28) 2) Kiki (05:03) 3) Peter's Fever (04:56) 4) River (07:15) 5) Awakening (03:04) 6) For Wilma Nikunne (01:27) 7) Berceuse (03:06) 8) Betty's Nap (04:54)

Format: LP
Catalogue No.: RCM72541LP
Barcode: 0789577725416
Release Date: 26 May 2023
Genre: Rock

2023 Vinyl Reissue Of “Enclosure”. On April 8, 2014 Record Collection released ENCLOSURE, the 11th full-length album from John Frusciante. Enclosure was written, produced, performed and engineered by Frusciante in his Los Angeles-based recording studio. From The 2014 Press Release: “Enclosure, upon its completion, was the record which represented the achievement of all the musical goals I had been aiming at for the previous five years,” says Frusciante. “It was recorded simultaneously with Black Knights’ Medieval Chamber, and as different as the two albums appear to be, they represent one investigative creative thought process. What I learned from one fed directly into the other. Enclosure is presently my last word on the musical statement which began with PBX.” Tessa Jeffers from Premiere Guitar magazine gets to the heart of the matter below: “There’s a battle being waged in John Frusciante’s mind. In his musical world of juxtapositions and genre marriages, the traditional spars with the far-out, and mathematical equations somehow compute into expressions of feeling. The guitar will always be a bedrock instrument for the member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but his new weapons of choice are machines. “The Roland MC-202 [an early-’80s synthesizer/ sequencer] is one of my favorite instruments,” Frusciante says. “The same goes for drum machines, samplers, the computer, and other synthesizers.” “For Frusciante, the main appeal of these instruments is that once you learn to manipulate them, you can produce all types of instrumental sounds instantly. Frusciante actually has six MC-202s, which he uses in various combinations to translate guitar parts into synthesized parts. With multiple machines, he can manipulate a single guitar string per machine, and then endlessly refine each string’s sound. “’At this point I’m as fluent in programming as I am on guitar,’ he says. ‘Since I’ve learned the language and integrated it with my natural tendencies as a musician, it sometimes feels like I’m a commander in a war. Like there’s fu**ed-up shit going on, and I have to fix it. Like there are two sides arguing, and one side has to win and one side has to lose. One side has to be captured and enslaved to the other side. In some ways it’s probably not that different from playing a war video game. I read books about subjects like war because they remind me of how I think when I make music.’ “Frusciante emphasizes the fact that programmed instruments are ‘obedient to the mind’— a composer’s most important instrument. He now feels there are no physical obstacles between the music in his imagination and the sounds he creates. He says he’s equally inspired by 20th-century classical composers such as Igor Stravinsky and Iannis Xenakis, and more recent electronic experimentalists like Tom “Squarepusher” Jenkinson, who is both a classical bass virtuoso and a master programmer. “Frusciante says he was introduced to electronic music when he formed Speed Dealer Moms, an ‘experimental acid house’ group, with friends Aaron Funk (Venetian Snares) and Chris McDonald. Six years later, Frusciante is about to release Enclosure, his 11th solo album, which relies heavily on programming. He views it as a personal musical breakthrough, a marriage of intricate guitar compositions and the electronica knowledge he acquired while creating prior albums like The Empyrean and PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone. “’It’s a great time to be a musician,’ says the prolific Frusciante. ‘It just feels good when you can blend different genres that seem to have been segregated from one another in history. I feel like there’s a big message in Enclosure, that this is a way songwriters can express themselves without having to depend on producers or engineers or other musicians. Your job as a songwriter can be to create a sound composition in a way that traditional musicians can’t conceive. They know how to play their physical instrument, but when it comes to the actual goal of being a musician creating a sonic composition—they rely on other people to do it for them. Around the time I was making [2009’s] Empyrean, I’d envisioned certain things, like the idea that jungle beats and slow, Black Sabbath-type heavy metal would go really good together. I saw how really slow music and really fast drums might intersect, but I had no capability to do it. When I finally felt I’d achieved it, it felt like I’d done something. Being in the creative process is my favorite part of anything I do. I really love the act of making music.’”

Tracks: 1. Limited edition bone coloured vinyl. Colin McCann didn’t pick up a guitar for nearly ten years. The Northern-California-based songwriter, previously performing under Long Dog Bird, had been creating music with longtime friend and collaborator Brian Gossman for much of their adult lives with early-00s Baltimore-based band Wilderness. So what would cause such a stagnant period? And how could McCann find his way back to the joy that music had once so easily conjured? The answer was to go back to the very beginning, where the kinetic forces that urged McCann to make music in the first place could emerge once again. But first, he had to make space in his internal world; a kind of silence where he could hear the exhale of his past, and the blossoming of a new song. That blossoming would soon become the first songs for McCann’s latest project Vulture Feather. The band’s debut album Liminal Fields exists on an intangible plane: a crack in the concrete, a gauze between worlds. For as long as McCann can recall, he’s been using music as a vehicle to try and connect with an underlying, indescribable nature that only the sonic world seems to be able to reach. “There’s a feeling of ecstasy that comes when one merges with music,” he says. “It’s what calls us all back again and again to listen, to sing, and to play.” McCann had been striving to reach this outlying environment throughout his career, often stretching in ways that eventually came to negatively impact his life, and his health. The wake up call came when McCann suffered a near-death experience, eerily predicted by a friend through a dream she had had almost a year earlier. Newly awoken to the beauty of being alive, McCann strove to slow down, to listen to the inherent nature in all living things, and to rediscover our mutual connectivity. He stopped playing and listening to music, and instead soaked himself in the cacophony of silence. Then without any epiphany or grand catalyst, something urged McCann to pick up a guitar again. Ideas flowed more naturally than ever, and he soon realized that the liminal space he had been searching for was there all along he only had to listen. McCann tentatively reached out to Gossman to collaborate and the friends found themselves once again jamming together, in an off-grid quonset hut where they now practice. “It was like no time had passed,” McCann says. “That feeling of ecstatic joy, of forgetting your own name, came flooding back.” They were soon joined by another old friend, Eric Fiscus, who completed Vulture Feather on drums.

Tracklisting: 01. Hailing from a background in more dance-oriented club music he now also works within the field of electroacoustic and abstract music. Influenced by improvisation and ritual music, he has been delving into his artistic research on the subject of ‘ancient traditions with today’s electronic possibilities’, utilising hypnotic rhythms and soundscapes to map out some kind of bigger universal language, perhaps bridging a wider human consciousness. Nafas Morte is the title of Puyain Sanati’s new album and Farsi for “final breath”. As with all undulations of breath, nothing here is constant. The 5 tracks work as cinematic soundscapes to an array of possible narratives - personal, universal, or abstract - all of which centre around notions of rituals and tragedy. With a generous and candid approach “Nafas Morte” sonically illustrates these complex subjects in a poetic and non-grid manner. According to Sanati, the album is an exploration of rituals of grief, loss, and the transcendence that follows. Emitting a faint hubbub holding a likeness to crowds or reverberating machinery the record oscillates between moments of build-up and release — implemental for mirroring the flow and pace of our world. With elements akin to ambient, industrial, drone, kosmische, and musique concrète, Sanati utilises a range of technical approaches, including experiments with electronic processing and acoustic sources, side by side and together. Choral harmonies, flute and the santoor effortlessly weave together into the tapestry of sound. All these sources, overlapping layers, textures, and tempos somehow feel dense yet light at the same time. Death is change. On Ydegirl, the Copenhagen and Berlin-based musician Andrea Novel channels women from the past to find healing in her own present. The album's themes span time and her body's adaption to its changing passages, of places — both real and imagined — and her relationship to them. The songs exist in a limbo, fragmented state, reflecting Andrea's desire to challenge the concept of wholeness as the ideal. “I wanted to embrace being on the cusp, and not idealizing the wholesome or homogenous sound or form of storytelling,” Novel says of the album. “It’s more a collage work where I’ve been patching together the corners of my sound and mind, and then from different angles letting through all the voices, fantasies, moods and memories I have inside. The good and bad, the clear and distorted, the desired and unwanted, the ancient and yet to come.” Ydegirl stages modern day r&b and pop elements in a Nordic baroque scene, using classical instruments like clarinet, guitar and violin in the same breath as synthesizers and electronic drum patterns. Center to the music is her captivating voice, interlacing feelings of past, present and future in unique sonic arrangements. In Yde in the Netherlands in 1897, a 2000 year-old body of a girl was found in a local bog, remarkably preserved thanks to the effects of the acid in the peat. When found her head was partly shaved and her chest and pelvis almost dissolved. It’s an image that’s stayed with Danish artist Andrea Novel, inspiring not just her stage name Ydegirl, but also acting as something of a muse for the tightrope walking tension of her haunting chamber pop. Novel shared her first project as Ydegirl in 2019 with her debut EP notes19, a collection of self-produced songs that play out like an intimate diary, secret tellings of desires, plans and turmoil, creating sparks of energy around her artistic practice. Since her debut, Ydegirl has performed across Europe including a recent gallery show in London, Vega in Copenhagen, and at multiple festivals across Scandinavia including Norway's by:Larm and Denmark's SPOT. Although recording began many years prior, the album was only finished shortly before Holm tragically passed away in May 2021. From the most recent release "Boys In Movies ft. Nilüfer Yanya", which oscillates gorgeously between dark, grungy guitar chords and a sunny, optimistic ear worm of a chorus, to "Exist", an ethereal plea with hints of a hymn in the vocal stacks, the record shows all the transfixing sides of Liss with extraordinary heart. With today's release comes a new video for 'Nobody Really Cares' filmed in Western Denmark, the area where Holm was raised. Shot by his two dear friends Albert Hildebrand and Yasmina Derradj, this video embraces the Western Danish wilds with portraits of Holm's friends blended with clips of natural elements as the visual become more + more surreal. Of the debut album's release today, Liss share, "Today our album ‘I Guess Nothing Will Be The Same’ is released. We have spent an important part of our life together since we started the band seven years ago. It has been amazing to be able to make music with your best friends and share so many great experiences, almost nonstop. Søren was always the one who made us understand each other better. He was extremely generous with his creativity and as a human being. We would like to thank Søren's parents, Leonida and Niels, for supporting us in releasing this album. All the amazing people we've worked with over the years, you know who you are. And to all of you who have listened to the music and shown up at the concerts over time — this album is for you." The project's title, I Guess Nothing Will Be The Same, is a line from, “Text Me Back," a song about a break-up with someone you love that closes out the new album. Shares the band, "The title has taken on a new meaning since we lost Søren, but we don't feel that the album can be called anything else. Even though we feel confident in releasing the music, it is still difficult to do. Working with the material is a constant reminder of Søren’s absence." They continue, "It is important to break the taboo that is connected to suicide, and as we choose to release the music and speak openly about what has happened, it is with the hope that others who may be in a difficult place in their lives or who experience suicidal thoughts will find the courage to talk to someone about it. Losing Søren is the hardest thing we have ever experienced, and we wish with everything in the world that it had never happened. We will never stop missing him." The world was first introduced to Holm’s off-kilter charm and mesmerizing voice in the video for Liss’ debut video, "Try", in 2015, which lingers on an extreme yet beautiful close-up of his face. In the pursuing years, Søren and his fellow band members Villads, Vilhelm, and Tobias navigated Liss’ rise in popularity and everything it brought with it. Co-signed by the likes of Pharrell Williams, they soon followed up with the widely praised First EP (2016) released via legendary label XL Recordings. After an enforced hiatus, they returned with their EPs, Second (2019) and Third (2020). Combining Holm's captivating voice with their grungy take on r&b, soul and alternative pop, stints on the road with artists like Vampire Weekend, MO and Jungle soon followed, all of this winning them fans at FADER, i-D, NYLON, Interview, DIY, and many more along the way.

Track list: 1. This album was the only LP released by the mysterious Aselefech Ashine and Getenesh Kebret, two young women backed by one of the hardest-charging jazz and funk bands of the Ethiopian scene. The record was a huge hit in Ethiopia in 1976, but the artists never released another album. We managed to track them down and bring this amazing record back to the world. Dizzying close harmonies and indestructible grooves on this lost classic from Ethiopia’s Golden Age. Aselefech Ashine and Getenesh Kebret, two young women raised in the bustling cosmopolitan milieu of late-empire Addis Ababa, released a single record in 1976, before disappearing from the music business entirely. Originally released on Kaifa, the label responsible for some of the heaviest and funkiest Ethiopian records of all time, Beauties was a hit, selling out in a few days. But it came out at the beginning of two decades of darkness and oppression in Ethiopia, and this is the first full reissue of this overlooked classic. Beauties is at once totally unique and an amalgamation of all that came before it during Ethiopia’s explosive two decades of creativity in the 60s and 70s. Fans of Ethio-jazz will hear Mulatu in the dark, minor-key piano runs, turning in on themselves on songs like “Amlak Abet Abet” and “Metche Neow.” Infinitely interlocking percussion and rock steady basslines are a signature of the Army Band, which also backed greats like Tlahoun Gesesse and Mahmoud Ahmed. Arranger Teshome Sisay is also an incredible flutist, playing with both sensitivity and swagger on tracks like the majestic “Ayinouma.” But the vocals are the most stunning part. Aselefech and Getenesh met at the legendary Hager Fikir Theatre in Addis, where centuries-old Ethiopian culture combined with the modern music of the capital’s elite. Trained in traditional music, their dual vocals lead in extremely close harmony, intertwined and infinitely creative in their phrasing. By the time this record was released, the Derg Regime was imposing strict crackdowns on music and artistic expression. Targeted as allies of the deposed Emperor Haille Selassie, the artists (and most musicians) had to keep a low profile. This is one of the last great releases of the Ethiopian Golden Era. Though she was never able to release a second record, Aselefech Ashine is proud of her work. From her home in Addis she says: “I have full confidence that this album will be popular and a hit when it is released again now!” We are proud to release this album in collaboration with Domino Sound in New Orleans and through direct license from the artists. When these releases failed to take off as hoped, lost years followed on smaller labels and self-released projects, until the renewed urgency of the 2016 Brutalism Begins At Home EP and increasingly majestic albums on which saw leader Johny Brown's lyricism enter a new phase. The common thread through BOHJ's four decades of recordings is the foundational warmth and humanity of Brown's words. The band's earliest recordings seemed garnered from street-level observations of neighbourhood people and sights. By the time of near-hit "Tactless", their songs - whatever the underlying impulses may have been - had become immediate enough to overcome the mystery of a line like "Do you remember the swan that was shot in the park?" Over each of their last three albums - Funambulist We Love You, Neon Primitives and Dreams Take Flight - BOHJ has bettered itself, and may now have reached their apex, Fated Beautiful Mistakes. We live in a time of generally justifiable gloom and awkward uncertainty. So it may appear cavalier to claim this album sounds revelatory in that context, but Band Of Holy Joy's strengths rest largely in Johny Brown and the band's ability to capture a wider societal feeling. One listen to the escapist fantasy of "Our Flighty Season Under The Flighty Sun" and its slightly-haunted ending speaks volumes beyond most of what passes for music in 2023, and it's just one of many perfect moments on this album.

Tracks: Lighthouse Keeper / New York Romantic / A Citadel Of Crooked Soul / Mersey Ferry On The River Thames / Our Flighty Season Inn The Dirty Sun / Circus Folk / City People / Instagram Moon / The Curve Of The Bay / The Full Bloom Of Roses / Babylon Farewell

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0130/8714/6043/files/BandOfHolyJoy-FatedBeautifulMistakes_fde381e7-a04e-45c0-ba37-245b76c51958.jpg?v=1682869304
surprise-chef-friendship-limited-sky-blue-vinyl
Surprise Chef - Friendship [Limited Sky Blue Vinyl]

Format: LP, Sky Blue Vinyl
Catalogue No.: BCR159LPC2
Barcode: 0349223015959
Release Date: 02 Jun 2023
Genre: Jazz

Since the release of Surprise Chef's 2022 album, Education & Recreation, they have been touring across the US, Europe, and Australia selling out shows and cementing themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Intense sunshine with a severe chill in the air? Brutal downpour underpinned by a sticky, sickly warmth? We’ve got the lot, and more besides. Perfect weather, then, for Body Maintenance, who hail from the traditionally sunny climes of The Land Down Under while dealing in a particularly icy brand of hardcore-tinged post-punk. Confused? Nah, you won’t be, so ignore this heavily laboured introduction. You’ll be too busy being totally bowled over by the roar of their echo pedal-laden racket. ‘Beside You’ is their first full-length LP, following a 12” EP and live cassette on guitarist James Kane’s own Unwound Records, and a self-released demo cassette. Superficially, their take on brutally noisy sang-froid is the sort of thing that garners lazy comparisons to Joy Division, but more discerning ears will pick out similar sounds like Stockholm’s much-missed Holograms, Blitz circa ‘Second Empire Justice’ and even Italy’s modern anarcho heroes A Culture Of Killing. All of which is kind of irrelevant except that it should tell YOU, o worthy possessor of exquisite taste, that it sounds fucking great and you need to get this band in your ears immediately. Drummer Zoe Mulcahy (also of Jake Robertson’s effervescent Alien Nosejob project) may be the secret star of the show, whether lending a glowing pulse to the coldwave-imbued robotica of ‘Time Enough’ or simply wailing hard on album opener ‘Silver Yarns’. Riley Stafford’s dispassionate bark also stands out, especially on the driving ‘It’s Theatre’, although it’s buried deep in the mix, clouded by the wash of guitars and Ella Howells’ glacial synths. But let’s not get bogged down in individual performances, ‘cause this Melbourne quintet are way more than the sum of their parts. The whole is punchy and powerful; the sound pulls you all over the place emotionally - you can’t truly prepare for the way the brooding title track sneaks up on you. It throbs in your brain like an amyl nitrate headache; it rages subtly and smartly while simultaneously indulging AND railing against a primitivist instinct to rock out. More simply, it’s the soundtrack to your springtime and beyond - this is the instant classic you’ve been after, so why waste any more time reading what I’ve got to say on the matter? But no, evidently there’s always time for one more thoroughly wracked project, and Alien Nose Job’s focus is as kaleidoscopically scattershot as you’d expect from a man with such a short attention span. Just to confirm: yes, that’s a good thing. From the off, we glide through the Coneheads-style Devocore of Television Sets before romping through the jangling lo-fi pop of Weight of the World, which skips and mopes while making like The Clean setting light to their parents’ carpet with a magnifying glass. There’s also charmingly scruffy soul-pop, chugging sci-fi slop-punk, straight-up college rock balladry and much, much more. But these aren’t sketches or tossed-off genre exercises. They’re bona fide works of consummate skill that resonate sincerely and effortlessly. Essentially, each song sounds like a challenge to the one that follows, a cry of ‘step the fuck up’; Suddenly Everything is Twice as Loud is a treasure trove of mini-masterpieces. Rough as fuck mini-masterpieces, sure, recorded with a cheap drum machine and guitars that sound like rusty drills cutting through power cables, but mini-masterpieces nonetheless. When venerable doyens of the pop establishment make albums of such eclectic scope and genuine songwriting talent, they get called geniuses. When punk as fuck wiseguys like Robertson pull it off, words like ‘maverick’ get tossed around. Rest assured, his Alien Nose Job project covers both angles. This second album is an instant classic that deserves to be heard far beyond the underground – but if it isn’t, who cares? He’s probably playing in another seven bands already by the time you read this. I’ve not heard them yet either, but I can tell you they’re all fucking amazing. Limited Crystal Clear Vinyl LP. The 'Baptismal' project started out when Kramer invited me to collaborate with him on a project, and I tend to think in terms of what the listeners are open to hearing these days. In my mind was a recording that let the listeners leave the busy mind generated by mainstream media, so I came up with the idea of a baptism, immersive kind of LP in which the listener would Become totally present with the music. I suggested to Kramer the title 'Baptismal', and that the tracks would be called 'Gedunk', a comical reference to the idea of being immersed in water, my own baptism as a child in the Christian faith, the Baptist church. I started by sending Kramer several tracks of Zither-centric music in the length of individual LP sides. Kramer would complement the tracks with plush drones and return it to me. Then we would discuss. Soon we had enough material to move toward completing the album. I performed with piano keyboard, ZITHER and voice. We collaborated entirely by sending audio files back and forth via online transfer. We haven't had physical contact at all during the project, but it went smoothly with some minor suggestions to help us to shape up our navigation til we finally arrived. The album cover was suggested by Kramer, which I think is very appropriate. The project started in 2022. Mark Kramer, an old young friend. We connected in New York City when he was here in the 80s. Laraaji, Jan. 2023 // I met Laraaji by chance in NYC's Central Park one fine summer day in 1985. I'd been thinking about the wisdom vs. the futility of starting my own record company a lot in those days, and as I walked through one of the parks many tunnels, I heard what I'd recognized to be Laraaji's 'Day of Radiance' playing on what i'd assumed to be someone's beatbox. I thought to myself, "How nice it is to be alive in NYC in 1985 on a day like this in Central Park and knowing that someone loves this wondrous LP from Eno's Obscure Records label as much as I do." But when I emerged from the tunnel I saw not a beatbox but Laraaji himself sitting in a lotus position on a hillside, hammering gently on a zither plugged into an echo pedal and a small battery powered amplifier. I sat down about ten feet in front of him, shut my eyes, and LISTENED. About an hour later, the music carefully rolled into the natural silence surrounding it, and I opened my eyes. We met each other's gazes, and smiled. "Peace", he said. We talked and became fast friends. A few days later he was in my studio, Noise New York, recording a zither improvisation that would soon become his contribution to the very first Shimmy-Disc release, a compilation titled 'The 20th Anniversary of the Summer of Love'. The so-called 'Ambient Music' scene was still in its infancy at the time, and we agreed then and there that we would someday, when the time was right, make a collaborative LP together. Someday turned into some decades, and not long after Shimmy-Disc was relaunched in 2021, I called my old friend and suggested that we make good on our dreams. He agreed and suggested the title 'Baptismal', and the imagery instantly began blossoming in my head. 'Baptismal' began as Laraaji's beautiful idea and became Ambient Symphony #1 in four Movements. Three of those movements fit onto the vinyl LP. All four are on the 60 minute long CD and cassette. Next comes Ambient Symphony #2. There will then be a third, to complete the cycle. I am deeply honored to see my nearly 40 year friendship with Laraaji manifest itself into a series of collaborative compositions that can be experienced long after both of us are gone. The end results are important, but nothing is more important (to me) than the changes we experience as a result of the process. How are we different now, after the music is done? What has happened to us, because of these sounds we have made together, and these songs we have made? And, of equal importance... can the listener sense that something is happening to the artists as a result of their collaborations? And...can the listener experience some of that, too? RINGS OF SATURN won't change the world, but the words & music dervishing off these grooves accurately expresses the Love poured into the foundations beneath these Nocturnes (w/ Britta Phillips) and Psalms (w/ David Grubbs) and Preludes (w/ Eerie Wanda) and Elegies (w/ Jad Fair & Danielson) and Laments (w/ Paul Leary) and Hymns (w/ Rob Crow). working with others is my lifeblood. I am Nothing without them. TIME, with all its mysteries intact, and unfettered by borders, so that both the artists and the listeners can enter, in partnership, together. It was their first release to feature an actual band performing, including Pat Byrne from Urge Overkill playing drums on some of the songs in addition to the Roland TR-606 drum machine that provided rhythm tracks on Big Black's early records. On Bulldozer, Big Black's founder and frontman Steve Albini achieved a signature "clanky" sound with his guitar by using metal guitar picks notched with sheet metal clips, creating the effect of two guitar picks at once. The Bulldozer EP was recorded with engineer Iain Burgess and released in December 1983, with the first two hundred copies packaged in a galvanized sheet metal sleeve in homage to Public Image Ltd.'s Metal Box. Many of the EP's lyrics depicted scenarios drawn from Albini's midwest upbringing, such as "Cables", which described the slaughtering of cows at a Montana abattoir, and "Pigeon Kill", about a rural Indiana town that dealt with an overpopulation of pigeons by feeding them poisoned corn. The EP's final song, "Jump the Climb," was recorded by Albini before the addition of his bandmates.

A1 Cables A2 Pigeon Kill A3 I'm A Mess B1 Texas B2 Seth B3 Jump The Climb

Format: LP, Coke Bottle Clear Vinyl
Catalogue No.: ZEL026LP
Barcode: 0617308040852
Release Date: 21 Jul 2023
Genre: Alternative

Limited Coke Bottle Clear Vinyl. Jazz-informed vocals & production merge triphop and prog influences and join the dots between Homegenic era Bjork or Portishead and contemporary artists like Solange.
What’s Mu about? Mu is about everything: Songs about heartbreak and parting share the album with songs marvelling at the scale of the universe. Mu is a concept from Zen and Chan Buddhism that means: “nothingness” and also, “pure awareness.” The awareness at the source of all things. In Hannah’s words: “There is so much life in every moment. Endless patterns, algorithms and instances repeating and changing and adapting. Spiralling outwards from the source. What source? The source.” In search of the source, Hannah has composed and arranged an undefinable, cinematic album that leads the listener on a winding path through her imagination. Sonically as well as thematically, Mu is an album of extremes and lofty ambitions. Fragile and delicate vocal and violin textures contrast with crunchy noisescapes and brooding synthesizers. Hannah’s commanding voice shares the spotlight with a string section and is backed by spacious production featuring many acoustic instruments. Sonically, producer Nick Herrera has brought a reassuring chunkiness to this unplugged palette, in particular the head nodding drums that anchor Hannah’s celestial musings. Like a film soundtrack or a symphony Mu is best listened to and understood as a whole - it circles back to themes and refrains and re-examines them. Sometimes a song is a song, sometimes it’s a soundscape dreaming of a song. “When making this album, I had a specific concept for how I wanted the music to sound. I don’t mean in terms of genre… it was more of a visceral, sensory concept which I knew I could only realise by allowing myself to experiment and create simultaneously, believing in my rough ideas enough to grow them, to weave them into stories. I began allowing myself to enter and remain in a very heightened state of awareness, which is a state I have continued to pursue and learnt to enjoy ever since. I let my mind dissolve into blackness each day. From there the most wonderful colours can appear. I have decided to call the album “Mu” to signify the empty chasm I allowed to hold within me whilst these songs were born.”

TRACKLIST: 1. Mono no aware 2. Otherworld (ft.
