Truth be told, it’s hard to believe that Horizons Music keeps coming with such strong product. Some labels would have fizzled out at their 14th release, but Horizons Music keeps the quality control upfront. This 12” showcases two of the new school’s budding producers who both caught the ear of 1xtra’s DJ Bailey. Senses’ “Babylon” spent ‘nuff time getting rinsed by Bailey on his “Intabeats” radio show, and Bailey’s “IntaSound” label just put out a 12” of Survival tunes. It’s only fitting that these two lock horns and create some beats with a “back to the future” theme. Not the movie, but the theory: “Kaikan” is guided by a crafty old school break, as well as a subwoofer-loving bassline. This foundation is inhabited by some a number of elements: progressive keys at one moment, slyly edited sax notes at the next. The flipside, “Lisys”, starts out with a funky drum, which builds into a pretty bombastic track. A lone melody calls, and there seems to be a chorus that responds right to it. An amen sneaks in, providing one of many layers to the runnin’ riddim track. Not only is it hard to deny such stunning examples of great DnB, but it will be hard to pick a favorite from this release!
