Following a trend of quality beats from quality producers, Horizons Music steps up for #15 with a stunning 12” from Sabre (Shogun audio / Emcee / Bassbin). He brings his own brand of deep funk to the HMG stable. “Language Barrier” comes on slow, with faint, mutant sounds crying slowly over chunky drums, leading way into a bevy of bleeps and noises. On top of that, a jazzy key melody runs over top, helping usher in the grooving bassline. The track evokes pure emotion: frustration, desperation, fear, and acceptance. The flipside, “Cellar Dweller”, is a harder in both sound and style. An ambient intro is heavy on eerie samples and waves of sound, and let’s the track just dive right into a tech-funky number. The bouncy feel of the track is only accented by the breaks that sneak in every once and again. “Cellar Dweller” succeeds in being heavy, but not overbearing, deep but not depressing. Sabre is a force to be reckoned with, and welcome addition to the Horizons Music camp.
